SANGU (SORUN) KHOLA HYDROELECTRIC PROJECT

The Sangu(Sorun) Khola Project is a run-of-the-river (RoR) type Hydropower project located in Dolakha district. It has the installed capacity of 5.0 MW and will be able to generate 29.72 GWh of energy annually after deduction of consumptive use, outage and system losses. Sangu (Sorun) Khola is a perennial river having almost steady perennial flow and is one of the contributor and major tributary of the SingatiKhola and ultimately Tamakoshi River. It has 40% dependable flow of 1.88 m3/sec and is adopted as the design discharge of the project. The net head available for the project is 316.86 m and gross head of 325.5 m.The mild steel headrace/penstock pipe is of length about 4531.0 m with a size of 1.3 – 1.1 m dia and thickness 6mm to 20mm will be constructed. The penstock shall be surface type to convey water from settling basion to surface powerhouse.Surface powerhouse will be located at Sorung Bazar on left bank of Sangu (Sorun) Khola, just 300m upstream of the confluence of Sangu (Sorun) khola with Singati River.  Likewise, the headwork is located at 1595.5 m masl and will be constructed of permanent structure.  Side intake followed by gravel trap and connecting canal to settling basin are the main structures. All the project structures lie within the Bigu Rural Municipality. The project’s headworks site is located just upstream of confluence of Sangu Khola with Rampa Khola above 250 m and powerhouse site is located about 300 m upstream of the confluence of Sangu (Sorun) Khola with SingatiKhola at Sorung Bazar. The settling basin lies on left bank of the river and also headrace pipe alignment along left bank of the river. The project encompasses an area between latitude 27 47’13” N to 27 48’15” N and longitude 86 04’00” E to 86 04’03” E
